Week 28 February 22, 2010

Hello everyone!!!!! First, thanks so much for the letters that I have received, I got a couple during transfer and little box!! Thanks so much. You guys are so great! But lets start from the beginning ok….

Last Monday was my last day in Livramento, and it was such a good one. They threw a huge party for me at the house of Elton and Eliara! They gave me some memory thing, made out of granite, with the two flags it's sooo cool and they had dinner and stuff, and then I had to leave to pack… and be ready to be at the bus station at 5:30 in the morning… it was so nice because Elton gave me a ride there and it was poring rain and he stayed with us and said everyone started to cry the minute that I stepped on the bus. He was waving bye to me as I rolled away. I haven’t ever seen him show emotion before which was amazing for me! And then I started the 6 hour bus ride to Santa Maria… it was so great, I got to sit with one of my best friend Elder Kamya who is from Hawaii the whole bus ride and we stopped in Sao Gabriel to pick op some people and I saw my comp for like 1 minute and then got back on the bus… and continued…

We arrived in the bus station in Santa Maria and I saw everyone, there were like 60 missionaries there, it was cool, but I literally only had like 5 minutes there, just enough time to run the bathroom and to get a sandwich, which was 10 pila- gosh ridiculous ha-ha. And get back on… I was kind of sad I didn’t get to talk with anyone… and I was off again for another 4-hour bus ride…. It was along day…

I arrived here in São Gabriel with another missionary and we sat waiting for like 1 hour because we had no way to get a hold of our comps…and when they came we went strait to where we live… its so funny because the only thing I have heard about where the missionaries live is that there are 2 houses. One that is awesome, like a mansion and one that is horrible that always gets broken into, ha-ha and who is put in the horrible house… hahahaha yup me… its kind of funny… we really have a house, a Brazilian house where you can’t flush paper down the toilet… limited water (really limited hahaha like none) we have frogs and some tiny scorpions in our house…. Ya its been an adventure of a week…

Other then that, this city is really not big at all… just a lot land that we have to walk… and the church here is tiny. It’s a branch… but which means we have some work to do that I hope we will get started on be able to do here..… I don’t really have much to say this week … I think I need one more week to settle in little bit more… you guys will get more details next week! Sorry that this was short but I got to go. Thanks for everything you guys!! You guys are the best!! Love you all and have a fabulous week!!!

Week 27 February 15, 2010

Family!!! How are you guys doing!! I bet that everyone is anxious to here how my last week was here in Livramento!! And honestly it was amazing!!! It sounded like you guys had a great week in Arizona! I bet it was amazing!! So thanks for all the letters and stuff I loved them!! Oh family, where to start with this week!! Well this week we did another transfer! For one day I stayed with Elder Zuikini in his area and for one day I stayed with Elder De Poula in my area! The other zone leader! It was good and then we had to prepare for the baptism, which took up a lot of time, but it was really amazing!! Maria got baptized on Friday, which was amazing!! It so good to see someone who loves the gospel, ahh it’s great and then after they surprised us and did like a family night in the ward to say goodbye to me!! I really am going to miss this ward so much they are sooo amazing!! They said something really funny!! Here it's the summer and I guess it's really, really rare for it to rain here like this its been raining for the past two days and they said!! "Elder Wiscomb do you know why its raining.... because Livramento and us are going to miss you soooo much" I thought that was pretty nice ha-ha. The rest of this week has just been saying goodbye to everyone, which has been hard!! Today we had the transfer meeting and it was also Elder Zuikinis birthday today so we made cake and blew up balloons and stuff for him!

But know for the big news!! I am going to a little city called Sao Gabriel!! And my comp is going to be Elder Oliveira!! I here that in this city there is 2 companionships, me and my comp and another but we will never see them so it’s going to be different!! But it should be great! I'm really excited to get to know my new comp! No one knows him here in Livramento because he is new! I think he has only 3 more months than me in the mission and this transfer with me is going to be his first transfer being a district leader! So it’s going to be good to see him grow and watch how he adjusts to the responsibility!!

So what’s next!! I'm going to leave here and I have dinner tonight in the house of my favorite family Elton and Eliara!! And then I will prob be up all night packing which is a pain in the butt hahahahaha!! And I have to be at the bus station tomorrow at 6:30 because it leaves at 7 and its a 6 hour bus ride to Santa Maria and then I will get another bus to Sao Gabriel which is another 3 hour bus ride. So a lot of "bus" tomorrow hahaha!!!

Well that was this week and what’s to come!! It’s been a good week but real fast. Let grandma know that mail places are all closed because of Carnival.... it's crazy, so she will get a card later in the week or maybe next week... we will see what happens!!! Ahh sorry!!!! And then something kind of funny I played Mario cart for one lap hahahahaha the little kids wanted me to show them how its done hahaha because I never lose right... Dave and Molly hahahaha!!! I just had to teach them a little thing or two!! Oh and almost forgot again!! Happy late Valentines Day, I didn’t even know it was until dad reminded me today!! But I hope that everyone had a great day!!

Sorry that this week is kind of boring!! Not much happened but it was a good week! Next week will be better and more interesting!!!

Well guys I love you all so much and I hope that you guys have a great week!!!! You guys are all so special to me!! Be safe and have fun!! Love you all!!

Week 26 February 8, 2010

Hello family!!!! How is everyone doing this week!! It sounds like everything is just going great in Salt Lake! Thanks for the emails everyone it’s so great to here from you all!!

So lets just get right to the point huh, hahaha! This week was SO great! First starting on ‘terca feira’ we started a division! So I stayed with Elder Zequini! He is my best friend here in the mission, that’s a Brazilian, he is awesome! And we had such a great time! We taught a lot and we bought pizza from Uruguay, but it was so good!! Something actually really crazy happened to us when we were together too!! It’s actually something kind of scary!! So on Wednesday it was super windy!!! And I mean trees were falling down and stuff it was crazy, but the work needs to continue right... so we were walking up this street that had buildings on both sides. And a slate of glass (like a full window) was blown out of its position in front of us and hit the ground and the wind caught it again and it started to come strait at us! Seriously a huge slate of glass!!! But what happened next is truly the Lord protecting us!! The glass was flying right at us and we didn’t have much time to react and right when the glass was about to hit and seriously probably hurt us really bad if not cut us in half (I'm not kidding) the glass broke into two pieces and went around us and aaaaaaah it and cut the people that were behind us!! Seriously the only things that we felt were little grains of glass kind of like sand that didn’t do anything!! That is something that I seriously saw the Lord’s hand in! And there was nothing in the way that made the glass brake but it seriously broke into two chunks and did a circle around us! It was something that I will never forget and always remember that truly we are protected by our Heavenly Father!! Pretty cool huh!? Well more like pretty crazy ha!!

But it was divisions and I learned a lot!! I'm at the point where we can just go to the appointments now and I don’t need to worry about what part I need to teach I'm getting more and more comfortable every day which is nice!! And I found that out on the division!! I think that he was really testing me but it as good! So here in Livramento it’s soooooo hot!!!! The wind is hot the rain is hot... its just pure hot and it’s difficult to relax, especially when you are just sweating all day hahah but its great!! Couldn’t ask for anything better ha-ha... and I hear that Livramento is the coldest of all places in the winter here!

Well something else happened this week that was really great; we marked the date of baptism for Maria! This lady is amazing!! And so ready to be baptized! So we are going to baptize her on Friday and then I leave Monday night!! What a great way to leave this city huh ha-ha!!

So everyone, about that question that I gave you guys last week, I think that I will share my answer with you guys too!! So this question was if you had 10 minutes with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ what you say to him? How would you show your love and gratitude for everything that he has done for us! And I said to write it down on paper................ so this is an activity that I did too! And quite frankly I did A LOT of sitting and thinking!! Seriously I couldn’t think of the "right things to say"! I mean obviously we have the power of prayer, which is literally a way to talk to our Heavenly Father, one on one and I like to think that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ knows what we say in our prayers too! So I already express my emotions and my gratitude and love through prayer!! But I just continued to sit and think... and I honestly couldn’t think of what I really, really wanted to say to him!!! So I said a prayer, and I finally figured out what I would say to him to show my gratitude and love for him!! And quite frankly it was 1 or 2 sentences!! My paper was practically empty!! I started to right on the paper!! I started to write "honestly from the bottom of my heart thanks so much for the example that you left here on Earth for all of us! It’s the perfect example, something that all of us have an opportunity to follow!! And words can’t explain my gratitude for the suffering you did for us in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the cross!! I know that because and through your atoning sacrifice we all have a chance to return to and live with you and our Heavenly Father! Anything I say won’t do justice! All I can say is CONTINUE TO WATCH ME while I'm here on Earth!! I WILL SHOW YOU MY GATITIUDE!" this is what I wrote!! "Watch me" through our works and actions here on Earth we can show how much we are grateful for what he did for us!!!

That is what I wanted to share with you guys!! I love you guys so much! My time is up!! The time is going by so fast and I can’t believe that one more week has passed!! I am down to the last 7 days here in Livramento, which is crazy!! Next week I will be telling you what’s going to happen!!! I love all of you so much!! Have a fabulous week!!! Mauh!! Big hug and kiss!

Elder Wiscomb

D and C 64:33...remember we are laying the foundations of the marvelous work!! All of us as members and followers of Christ have the opportunity to be an example thought the little things we do!! Love you all

At Zone Conference

Week 25 February 1, 2010

Hello family!!! Gosh how is everything going!? It sounds like things are just great back home. Thanks so much for the emails you guys are so great. I love hearing about things! Gosh, well where to start? This week was seriously such a great week! Another week of working really hard and another week of hotness, holly cow it is so hot and humid here! I just sit studying in the morning at 9 in the morning and just sweat and sweat... it’s horrible! But whatever right ha-ha!

This week, a lot of great things happened! To start of I will talk about conference! Wow it was another conference really, really good! I love seeing the President and his family and the AP’s, which now are two Americans (and they just happen to be my best friends in the field, and they call me all the time!! its kind of nice to have "an in" on everything that is going on and everything that will happen in the mission hahaha) but it’s really was so great! We learned so much! We started off talking about the goals of the mission, and then we learned how to teach the Book of Mormon better it was so great! When we were learning, ahh, my appreciation and knowledge about the book of Mormon grew even more! It’s truly a book that has the power of God and that is able to change the lives of those who read it! I just love the lesson of the Book of Mormon like I have already said! Such a crucial lesson for people, I love how they stress it so much!! And then after we ate lunch which is always amazing and then sister Myrrah showed us how to stretch and keep good care of our bodies and stuff so we did that for an our and a half! She did something that she calls "nuvem azul" which means ‘blue clouds’ something that relaxes you ahh it was so nice ha-ha! And then I had my interview with the President which is always amazing, and he said that he is 99% positive that he will transfer me to a different place this next transfer which I'm excited for (it’s actually a bitter sweet thing) but I think more sweat then bitter ha-ha! I'm really excited to see what will happen!! So ya that was conference!!

And then today for p-day we were walking passed a restaurant in Uruguay and what do you know hahahaha... President and sister Myrrah are here today hahaha it was super funny something that never happens they are sooo far away from there house, like 4 hours, but it was nice to see them AGAIN to talk for a little!

But what else happened this week... aww with the work the family that we have, that is progressing really well is continuing to progress!!! We actually marked a date for the baptism of a woman who is 68 years old she is amazing!! But the rule is that our investigators need to come to church 2 times before they are baptized... which is fine she loves church but our bishop picks her up because she lives across the street from him... and long story short he forgot.......... ahhhhh I know, so we need to wait until the 13th to baptize her which is 2 days before I leave so I'm hoping everything will workout, and I will be able to see her baptism!!

Other than her we, once again are working with a list of less actives and we got the members involved this week, which was great! We are going down a list of members that is 20 pages long and 2 columns with tinny font (ya soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo members) and contacting them one by one, street by street and its been the best thing we have done!! We are finding so many new people to teach (well for other areas ha-ha) but its still good!! And we are helping people to return! Once again we had 4 families that are returning and one of them that is super strong that is visiting the other families with the Patriarch!! So that’s good news so the work is going very well here!!

This week also was the birthday of the old man that I sent a picture of last week (our neighbor) so he invited us to have a Brazilian BBQ with him for lunch and it was so amazing!! We have been teaching him and he loves to read so we gave him a Book of Mormon for his present! And we are going to give the lesson this week!

Speaking of this week that’s coming!! Tomorrow I will do a 3-day division again with my ZL!! I'm so excited because I get to spend time with Elder Zukini, it sound be a couple fun days!!

And something SO funny that happened this week... I don’t know if I told you but my companion is from the city where they love cheese, (they really like worship it, it’s so funny) the cheese capital here in Brazil called Belo Horizont. And I guess he hasn’t eaten cheese for ever, like one yea,r because it’s expensive here in the south but he was dying so he finally said whatever and bought this huge, literally ball, of cheese like in the movies for 12 REALS that’s a freaking lot of cheese hahaha and he was like taking pictures with it and stuff... ahh it was just so funny. Probably wont be to you but you need to know and see how much this guy loves cheese hahaha its crazy!!!

Well jente (everyone) this was my week for you! Another week of serving the Lord which was amazing! There isn’t anther work better than this and I'm so grateful that I have the opportunity to do this for two years!! What a blessing!! Something that I want you guys to do! I was sitting and reading during my personal study and I was reading about the atonement of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! And after I read about it, at the bottom it said to give yourself a couple minutes to think about what I read... I was just thinking there and thoughts started to come to my head!! Thoughts and feeling of gratitude, love and many other things!!! And a thought come to my mind ‘what would I say to the Lord if he was here in front of my face if I had 10 minutes with him what would I say!!!’ This is what I want you guys to do! Think about the atonement and if you have time listen to the... I think it was the Easter talks of Elder Holland about the atonement and after WRITE ON PAPER what you would say to Jesus Christ if you had 10 conversing with him! This is something that really changed my life!! I promise that this will open your mind to a greater understanding and an even deeper love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Everyone I want you all to know that I know this Church is true!! That we have the guidance of a living prophet to help us through this live on earth! A life that sometimes ya, is difficult, but if endure the temptations of the world and search for the light of Christ and keep the commandments we will have a life filled with happiness, love, good heath and the presence of our Heavenly Father which is the source of all things (proverbs 3:1-2) I think this is the scripture!! If not its chapter 4 ha-ha...

But everyone I love you all! Have a fabulous week and look for a ways and opportunities to brighten the world a little more with the light of Christ that is within all of us!! Love you all!!! xoxoxoxoxoxoxox

Elder Wiscomb

Luke 9:62!!! I don’t know if I have already shared this scripture but its one of my favorites and its so true!!!! If you think about with we put our hands and the plough when we accepted Gods plan when we were with him before our lives here on earth!! Really we can’t look back!! We need to continue marching forward and spreading the knowledge that we have as member and the source of happiness that we feel and have in our lives!! It’s clear and a little bold, but true!!!!! That if we don’t do just this "we are fit for the kingdom of heaven"!

ONCE AGAIN LOVE YOU ALL!!!
